IWM Duxford
Martin-Baker UK
On 13 August 2019 thirty-six members of the Honourable Company of Air Pilots were privileged to be the guests of the Martin-Baker Company. The visit started with a tour of the production plant at Denham and included access to the machining, parachute packing and final assembly areas followed by the Museum and lunch.
The group was then taken by coach to the testing facility at Chalgrove airfield where, after a briefing by Andy Gent, chief test pilot, both test Meteors were flown together. The two pilots gave an excellent demonstration of these classic jets, after which James Martin made presentations to three ejectees among the party, Mike Beech, David Gladwin and Richard Lotinga.
Thanks to James and John Martin and staff and organizer Chris Ford for a memorable day with this magnificent example of British engineering at its very best.
